SGS achieves an important step in the deployment of one of its strategic initiatives related to Energy Infrastructure by acquiring McMurray Resources Research and Testing Ltd. (MRRT), located in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, the heart of the Athabasca oil sands region.

MRRT provides comprehensive analytical and materials testing, environmental services as well as geological and geotechnical services. Through its innovative and unique technologies, MRRT is the industry leader in bitumen yield determinations. With its new state of the art single site laboratory (27,000 sq.ft), MRRT is uniquely positioned to benefit from the rapid development in the Fort McMurray area.

Founded in 1981, and previously 100% owned by Mr Hermann Teichtmeister, MRRT generated 2005 revenues in excess of Can$ 8 million. Mr Teichtmeister will remain responsible for the laboratory and field services.
