Job Description
Required experience and qualifications include:

  • Experience performing a wide variety of microscope and instrument-based mineralogical studies on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.   
  • Working knowledge of geological mineralogy and laboratory techniques, including experience in sample processing, selection, analysis and data management, with hands-on experience in optical microscopy and instrument operation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience in a consulting function with report writing, client liaison, and budgeting responsibility would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices, i.e. health and safety, working with acids and other potentially hazardous substances, rock cutting and polishing machines.
  • Ability to work shifts, including: 24/7 coverage, with 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts a possibility.

Typical Background and Education
A University or College degree in Geology, Mineralogy, Soil Science or Materials Analysis is required for the Mineralogy Technologist position, and a University Degree in the above disciplines with 2-5 years working experience in Mineralogy is required for the Mineralogist position. Experience in environmental and industrial mineralogy is a definite asset.  

Candidates must be well organized, safety-conscious and able to work overtime and shifts (could include 24/7, very competitive shift premiums provided).
