Our Offer

Reporting to a Senior Chemist or Lab Manager, the Chemist is accountable for performing or supervising a variety of routine and non-routine technical or analytical tasks by applying standard procedures to complete testwork programs. They may be called upon to act in a supervisory role. He/she ensures that work meets established quality standards and Company procedures. The incumbent has responsibility for health & safety, environment, productivity, and quality priorities, ensuring that all of these issues are addressed and optimized. The Chemist works under minimum and/or general supervision.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Candidates must have experience in any, and preferably all, of the following technical areas: X-ray, AAS, Fire Assay, ICP-OES, wet chemistry
  • Classical ‘wet’ chemistry methods: titrations (color end-points and potentiometric end-points), gravimetric finishes, electroplating, volumetric analysis
  • Basic lab skills a must: pipetting, dilutions, weighing on a balance, filtration
  • Maintains production and quality targets. Is familiar with standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains a clean working environment.
  • Performs procedures within well defined practices and interprets results.
  • Complies routine test data and approves data within Quality System procedures.
  • Responsible for data handling and reporting and updating lab methods.
  • Ensures routine and non-routine equipment maintenance duties are carried out and completed as scheduled.
  • Organizes workload to maximize output.
  • Responsible for the training of junior and/or new personnel and ensures standard operating procedures are provided and followed. Documentation of training may be required.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices, i.e. health and safety, working with acids and other potentially harmful reagents
  • Ability to multi-task within a team environment is essential
  • Ability to work shifts is a must, including: 24/7 coverage, with 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts a possibility.

Experience and Educational Requirements

  • Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and possesses good verbal and written communication skills. Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with relevant experience (at least 5 years), in a commercial laboratory environment is required.
  • Incumbents must be computer literate, and have a working knowledge of business software and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
